Where faces fly from your tired eye;

Where your smile fades;
Or your love after it runs away before it’s found
Like all those souls in the ground--
Now forever lost, but bound to fly away.

How I wonder what you see
When you suffer without company;
In your prison or your ruler's seat.
What new specter's roam
And fill the places I would hold in aching dreams--
To leave the world just as it seems,
Not the way it is or we wanted it to be?
